Stretch marks (striae) form when skin stretches faster than it can adapt and support fibres beneath the skin are affected. They are common after pregnancy, growth spurts, weight changes and muscle growth.
Newer marks may look red, pink, purple or dark brown; older marks may look pale, white or silver. Treatment can improve their appearance, but does not remove them completely. Results vary.
