Sunscreen for deeper skin tones: yes, you need it, here's why

Start with the truth in the myth: melanin does protect, deep skin has a natural SPF of roughly 13. But the protection target is SPF 30–50, and the gap costs you.
What the gap looks like over time on melanin-rich skin: darker, more stubborn hyperpigmentation; melasma that flares every sunny season; uneven tone; and skin cancer, which is often diagnosed later in darker skin and can be more dangerous.
Practicalities for Kampala: SPF 30–50 broad-spectrum every morning on face and neck, reapplied on outdoor days. Modern formulas leave no white cast on deep skin, ask us which.
Sunscreen is not about fearing the sun. It is about protecting the results of everything else you do for your skin. It is the one product every plan here ends with.
